The much-anticipated Huawei P9 release date has already been confirmed to be on April 6 2016. But with the number of smartphones vying for our attention (and money), is there something new and exciting that we can expect from P9?
The so-called flagship mobile phone of the Chinese-based company has been in the middle of a rumor storm for several months now, building up to what many consumers believe is an incredibly competitive rear camera. Aside from what has been speculated in image leaks and hearsay, what other features does the P9 bring to the table that's making people say the Huawei is the future of mobile photography?
From the outset, the phone's physical features have been a topic of conversation months prior to the Huawei P9 release date announcement. Leaks boast of a slim metal build with what seems to be a fingerprint sensor on the back. While there haven't been any measurements of how big or how heavy the P9 is, its predecessor, the P8, is looking to be a good model of comparison.
Additionally, both the rear camera and the fingerprint scanner have already been confirmed by Huawei reps.
Despite the similarities of the image leaks with other popular competitors Samsung and LG, what the Huawei P9 has going for is its affinity with mobile photography. According to PC Advisor, Huawei has already sent their London attendees a teaser invite – a box containing the official #OO branding, and two old-school film rolls.
"The layout of the innards of the box is similar to the rumoured rear-facing dual camera setup, and it's clear that the upcoming press conference will have a strong emphasis on photography," it says on PC Advisor's update.

This news doesn't come as much of a surprise as previous rumors have already linked the P9 to challenging its Android competitors with higher quality mobile photos. GS Marena confirms that Leica will co-develop the P9's camera, while other unofficial reports also pointing to an affinity to photography.
Pocket Lint adds, "Some reports have said there will be two 12-megapixel sensors with OIS, while others have suggested there will be two 13-megapixel snappers on the rear." However, other sources have said that Huawei would rather save the battery power, instead of spending it on extra pixels.

Other rumored features include a Kirin 950 SoC power, a sports 5.2-inch 1080p screen, some 3GB/32GB memory configuration, and a 5MP front shooter with a 12MP dual rear camera setup that supports OIS. A 3,000 mAH battery pack will keep the lights on for the P9.
The launch event in London will reveal more about the revolutionary phone, so stay tuned for more updates and whether or not the rumored features of the Huawei P9 will prove to be true.
