'A Picture's Worth'… is where we ask mobile photographers that have created powerful mobile photography/art to explain the processes they took. This includes their initial thoughts as to what they wanted to create, why they wanted to create it, how they created it, including all apps used and what they wanted to convey. We also ask these incredible artists to explain their emotions and how the image projects those feelings. We have published a few A Picture's Worth articles recently, if you have missed those – please go here.
In this A Picture's Worth today we asked Cristina Rossi to tell us more about her image, it is one that we have previously featured in our weekly mobile photography and art showcase. Rossi has detailed her thoughts below, we think you'll find this invaluable…
"Put on your red shoes and dance the blues" is a line from David Bowie "Let's dance". David Bowie was my first teenage crush, so the lyrics of that song are forever imprinted in my mind. Red is my signature colour, a person I loved used to call me Scarlet Woman, Poppy and things like that. He also taught me the basics of editing, but things went horribly wrong and that's also why I don't edit much, it reminds me of him. The ropes represent a bad situation that you can't escape.
I explained the idea to my friend Angelo and he took the picture with my iPhone: he often acts as human tripod for me, but I wasn't happy with the photos. The pictures rested in my camera roll for a while, then I tried to edit one without much convinction. I used Snapseed to create a vignette and enhance the red, then Pic Grunger to add some texture. As always, when I put a lot of effort into things nobody likes them, but when I do it without thinking too much about it people loves it, and here we are".
