College hosts mobile learning conference

Tishomingo County should get ready to flash its best smile.

The county will be highlighted during the 8th Annual Mobile Learning Conference of Northeast Mississippi Community College on June 13-15.

A variety of lectures will be available to participants on the history of the area, according to conference founder and Northeast Technology Specialist Jeffrey Powell.

"This year I wanted to take people to my hometown and what better way to do that than to visit Tishomingo State Park," Powell said. "What sets Mobile Learning apart from any other conference is a unique hands-on experience, such as visiting the Corinth Contraband Camp and Tishomingo State Park."

In the past two years, Northeast's Mobile Learning Conference has given participants a chance to have a hands-on experience in Corinth with a photo safari in downtown Corinth and one at the Corinth Contraband Camp as well.

On June 14, Dr. Larry Anderson and Northeast Public Information Specialist M ichael H. Miller will lead a photo safari through Tishomingo State Park.

"Northeast Mississippi is known for some of the most beautiful landscapes and best history in the Magnolia State," said Miller. "It is only natural we return to our roots and not only use this as a learning opportunity for educators throughout the state, but to promote the positive aspects of northeast Mississippi and Tishomingo County."

The photo safari is slated for 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Participants will leave Northeast at Corinth at 9 a.m. The four sessions will last just over an hour.

"In the ever-changing role of photography, mobile photography is now the 'in' item for many people, especially educators," said Miller. "Being able to produce their own content for their classrooms as well as interactive multi-touch books, educators are learning how to increase the amount of information to their students in the face of ever-shrinking budgets."

During the safari, e nvironmental portraits and many other photo techniques will be discussed as well as hands-on explanation of classic photo techniques, according to Miller.

"Mobile photography not only means being able to produce a high-quality photo, but one that tells a story as well," added Miller. "It also means being able to produce photos from just about anywhere."

To register for the 8th Annual Mobile Learning Conference of Northeast Mississippi Community College, visit http://mobilelearning.nemcc.edu/ Cost is $150 for the three-day Mobile Learning Conference and participants are eligible to receive 2.1 CEUs.

Ad agencies prefer Instagram over Twitter for social media campaigns: Study

By ANI on Jun 11, 2016 at 9:45 AM comments Tags: Instagram Twitter News instagram-switching-accounts

Online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing, and social networking service Instagram is attracting more advertising agencies than Micro-blogging site Twitter, a survey says. Twitter rejected the survey results, pointing to a 2015 study by Advertiser Perceptions that showed 37 percent of advertisers intended to buy ads on Twitter, compared with 28 percent on Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, Reuters reports.

"The data presented in this survey couldn't be farther from the truth. We have close relationships with our agency clients and continue to hear that Twitter offers the most powerful creative canvas," a Twitter spokesperson said. The survey further shows that Instagram has more than 200,000 advertisers compared with Twitter's 130,000.

"We're seeing almost all of our clients shifting if not all of their budgets, then most of their budgets from Twitter to Instagram. Marketers typically want to be where the audience is," said Chris Gilbert, senior social strategist at digital agency Kettle, which works mostly with fashion brands.

Say goodbye to 'macho kombo' selfies with Tecno Camon C9

The exponential growth in mobile photography and the now essential need to freeze all manner of life's moments has seen manufacturers go out of the way to innovate.

However, few devices are capable of meeting the growing needs of smartphone users who increasingly want to remain visible and 'influential' in the evolving social media landscape.

Tecno Mobile understands the importance of giving users a unique experience in its latest version of the Camon series that is poised to be the best camera phone in the market

"Tecno smartphone Camon C9 will be the best camera phone in Africa… Its front camera is second to none in the world," says an official of the phone manufacturer.

The Camon C9 which is the second smartphone to be released after the Camon 8 in the Camon series last year comes with a fascinating 13MP front and rear camera.

If you are a selfie lover, then you will be thrilled to know that this gem is made with you in mind. The front-facing camera, unlike traditional smartphones is strategically placed in the middle to ensure you say goodbye to unnatural snaps with irregular angles.

With Camon C9's eight natural makeup styles, you will never have to worry about looking 'ugly' in a photo. The real-time makeup effect ensures you look best every time.

    2

Adventurous? Well, the smartphone comes with an unrivaled front camera flash with 15 lux, soft and natural light well hidden in an invisible design. This means you can click away at different lighting conditions and more so at night!

    3

Additionally, the C9's Visidon Algorithm Brightness produces 50% brighter image coupled up with Visidon Algorithm Noise Deduction that reduces up to 75% of the 'noise' in the dark giving you a clear image.

There are no better times to take group selfies that during a road trip or at a music concert. However, without a superior phone camera, many things can go wrong and the colour of the moment lost in the imperfection.

Tecno Camon C9 takes a bold step to ensuring perfection with its 0.1sec high-speed focus camera armed with an Integrated Flash Focus Solution, which ensures blurs action is frozen without blurs.

    4

And welcome to wider selfies! C9's 83° wide angle front camera lens and an option to switch to the 120° Panorama Selfie mode will ensure no one is cropped out.

Lenovo PHAB2 Pro is world’s first Project Tango smartphone

By Hadlee Simons on 10 June, 2016

It's taking a while for Project Tango devices to come down the pike, but Lenovo has made the first move with the PHAB2 Pro smartphone.

Revealed at Lenovo Tech World 2016, the device features three cameras and various sensors on its back to enable 3D-scanning, 3D-mapping, augmented reality functionality and more.

Lenovo touted a number of real-world applications for the technology, starting with the Lowe's Home Improvement app.

The app lets consumers search for an item they want for their home (be it a lamp or refrigerator) and virtually place it wherever they want.

Related: Google's Project Tango: the Android phone that maps your world in real-time

The second app, dubbed Woorld, allows you to create a tiny virtual world inside your own home, placing homes, plants and other objects around the household.

Finally, a pair of games were also touted by Lenovo, in the form of the tamagotchi-like Raise and the scary Phantogeist.

Otherwise, there are apps to map building interiors, measure items, check out virtual cars and more.

    A very capable phone?

As for the technical specifications, you're looking at a beefy-but-not-quite-flagship-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, 4GB of RAM, a massive 6.4-inch 2560×1440 display, 64GB of storage and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Mobile photography enthusiasts will be using a 16MP main camera with fast autofocus and an 8MP selfie shooter.

All of this is kept going by a rather large 4050mAh battery with fast charging, so it should last quite a while on paper.

As for launch details, Lenovo is claiming a "summer" (northern hemisphere) date and a US$499 price tag.

Terrible puns make Hadlee Simons difficult to work with, but he brings almost seven years of tech journalism experience to the table. When he's not at work or watching motorsport, he's in the foetal position on a jiu jitsu mat. More

Friends of Sunkhaze Meadows Receive $5,000 award from USFWS

The Friends of Sunkhaze Meadows is one of only eight organizations receiving awards of $5,000 by the US Fish and Wildlife Service for the innovative project, #TagYourRefuge, designed by the Friends to engage new audiences through mobile photography. The project funds repairs and rebuilding of the observation platform on the Carter Meadow trail. The views from Carter Meadow are iconic. Sweeping grasses, song birds, and water fowl surround the Sunkhaze stream and the series of bog domes in its midst. You can join the Friends and the US Fish and Wildlife Service as they work on the project Thursday June 9, Saturday June 25 and Friday July 8th. In addition to the observation deck, the USFWS plans include expanding access to the platform by widening the trail and providing additional boardwalks where terrain may challenge some visitors.

The award also provides funding for an online interactive trail map which will be crowd sourced via an Instagram photo contest launching in September. Photographers will be asked to take photos of the refuge and using Instagram (tag) @SunkhazeMeadows with a comment. Photos with the most likes and shares will be included in the trail map and featured in an exhibit in January 2017. The interactive trail map will use QR Codes, a mobile technology that uses an app on your phone to access web pages, and metal signs staked at waypoints corresponding with the online images and narrative. When the map is completed visitors to the refuge will, from their mobile phones, be able to learn about the refuge including the photo stories told by contest winners. To help participants do well, in September the Friends will host two free and open to the public photography clinics with nature photographer Dave Small (http://photosbychance.zenfolio.com/) and Karen Robertson of Plan_it Marketing will pr ovide tips on social sharing and using geotags. The contest will be open to everyone but special prizes will be awarded to youth in different categories.

"The opportunity for people to connect with nature through a social media platform will enable a much broader and diverse audience to experience the refuge. Successfully managing National Wildlife Refuges in the 21st century must include the utilization of social media." said Steve Agius, Acting Refuge Manager. Follow the project at www.sunkhaze.org or on Facebook/.com/FriendsofSunkhaze/ . Email the Friends at FriendsofSunkhazeNWR@gmail.com.
